Knot Styles
Windsor
A wide, triangular knot β the most formal tie knot. Best paired with spread collar shirts.
Half Windsor
A versatile, symmetrical knot. Works beautifully with light to medium weight ties and most collar styles.
Four in Hand
A slightly asymmetrical knot, ideal for heavier weight ties. The easiest knot for beginners.
Pratt (Shelby)
A polished, wide knot β not quite as wide as a Windsor. A refined option for business settings.
Bow Tie
A high-class neckwear choice. Best reserved for formal occasions, black tie events, and weddings.
Ascot
A narrow neckband with wide pointed wings. A traditional choice for formal daytime occasions.
General Tips
- Always start with the wide end on your right, extending about 12 inches below the narrow end.
- The tip of the wide end should reach your belt buckle when finished.
- Tighten slowly and adjust the knot upward toward the collar button without pulling too hard.
- Unknot your tie after every use to preserve its shape.
